Born in 1985 in the south of France, Delafiste is a self-taught contemporary artist whose practice is rooted in painting.
Working through gesture, color, and the transformation of the figure, he explores the shifting boundaries between figuration and abstraction. His current work centers on the human body, portraiture, anatomy, and hybrid forms, developing a visual language that is both instinctive and experimental. Chimeras emerge, dissolve, fragment, and reconfigure across the surface of the canvas. Faces, bodies, and hybrid creatures become unstable entities caught in a continuous state of transformation. Through this evolving bestiary, Delafiste explores tensions between presence and disappearance, attraction and grotesque, fragility and violence, order and chaos.
His approach to painting grew out of his early experience in graffiti with the pseudonym REMS, which began in the early 2000s. As a founding member of the Ghetto Farceur collective, he developed a distinctive and experimental approach to mural painting, taking part in exhibitions, festivals, and public art projects in France and internationally. Over time, his practice gradually moved beyond the context of graffiti, with the canvas and installation becoming autonomous spaces for experimentation and research.
In 2012, he founded the duo Bems with artist Bims and created Un Pianiste au Volant, a retro-futuristic installation commissioned by Mercedes-Benz. The project was presented at venues across Monaco, Cannes, and Villefranche-sur-Mer, alongside works by Pablo Picasso and Joan Miró.
In 2015, Delafiste presented NoirFluo at Hidari Zingaro in Tokyo, as part of an exhibition curated by Takashi Murakami and Takumi Kaseno.
Late 2024, he exhibited his work called They Live! at Nox Gallery in Shibuya, Tokyo. Developed following an artistic residency at Panik Room, Chiba, the exhibition marked a further development of his exploration of the human condition and psychology, through a series of abstract portraits.
Today, Delafiste’s practice is primarily focused on painting, while drawing remains an essential part of his process and contributes to the development of his visual vocabulary. He lives and works in France.
